Amazon.com, Inc., briefly Amazon, is an e-commerce and cloud computing company based in the United States. It was founded by Jeff Bezos on July 5, 1994 in Seattle, USA. It is the world's largest shopping site, both in terms of total sales volume and market value. It takes its name from the Amazon River, the largest river in the world.


Amazon.com is an electronic commerce pioneer that started by selling books first. Today, different types of goods are sold on Amazon, such as DVDs, music CDs, computer software, computer games, electronic goods, accessories, furniture. The company also manufactures its own consumer electronics products (Kindle e-book readers, Fire tablets, Fire TV, and Echo). Amazon is also the world's largest provider of cloud infrastructure services (IaaS). The company also sells simple products like USB cables under the AmazonBasics brand.


Amazon has separate shopping sites for the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, Japan, China, India, Mexico, Singapore, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates. Dutch, Polish and Turkish language options on the Germany site; The US site also offers Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), German, Chinese (Traditional), Portuguese, Korean and Hebrew language options.


One of the biggest breakthroughs Amazon has made in recent years has been the launch of the Kindle e-book reader. The device, which is currently sold as Kindle 3, has become one of Amazon's best-selling products. Amazon.com reached a market value of $1 trillion on September 4, 2018. It is the second company after Apple to reach this level.
